PROFILE

Segun Adaju, currently the CEO of Consistent Energy Limited is an international expert in the field of renewable energy and President, Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN). He is a graduate of the University of Lagos and a holder of BSc (Economics) and MBA degrees with over two decades of banking experience in reputable financial institutions in Nigeria.

He worked in leading banking institutions in Nigeria with deep experience in strategic planning, branch manager, retail and commercial banking and co-founder of the first microfinance bank in Nigeria.

He has also attended top-rated institutions all over the world for his executive education such as Harvard Business School USA, MIT/Sloan School of Management USA, Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Lagos Business School amongst many others.

He has also acquired professional training in the field of renewable energy at Renewable Energy Academy (RENAC) Berlin Germany, Euromoney Financial Training London, Development Bank of Southern Africa Cape Town, ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) Togo Lome, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Abu Dhabi and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).

He has provided expert and consulting services for several institutions cutting across public, private and development agencies such as United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Bank, African Development Bank, ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Bank of Industry, USAID, DfID, European Union, GIZ, Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility, and others.

He has also provided renewable energy expert consulting services to government institutions and agencies such as Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Energy Commission of Nigeria, Rural Electrification Agency, Borno State Government, etc. He was the lead consultant to Borno State Government on a 2-week Renewable Energy study tour of India in year 2013. He has been a leading advocate of Gender Mainstreaming and has ensured the inclusion of women in the RE space both as industry players and beneficiaries.

Segun has been in the forefront of promoting the development and scaling of renewable energy in Nigeria and was Project Manager to the first energy access program in Nigeria funded by UNDP and implemented by Bank of Industry. He worked as a consultant with Ministry of Environment, department of Climate Change to develop the sectoral plans for the achievement of Nationally Determined Commitments (NDC) for Nigeria in compliance to the Paris Agreement of which Nigeria is a signatory.

He also was part of the team that developed the Rural Electrification Implementation Strategy for the Rural Electrification Agency as a consultant under the Climate Change Workstream of DfID program. He was the Financial Advisor to the Solar Nigeria Programme on the Lagos Solar Project that supported the state to power 172 schools and 11 primary health centres with total capacity of 5MW. He was the lead expert on the solar project that powers 100 schools (20 secondary schools and 80 primary schools) in the North East of Nigeria funded by UNDP.

He has provided alternative energy solutions for SMEs, agricultural sector, rural communities via minigrids, households including estates, schools, hospitals and other infrastructure.

He has influenced the policy framework for renewable energy in Nigeria by being a strong advocate in decentralized energy solutions by engaging with all relevant public institutions such as policy makers, legislators, MDAs, development partners, REA, Nigerian Customs, Standard Organisation of Nigeria, etc.

He is the Team Lead for renewable energy under Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), President, Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria. Segun was recently appointed by the Honourable Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning into the Technical Working Group (Power and Alternative Energy) for the development of the Medium-Term National Development Plan 2021-25 and Nigeria Agenda 2022.
