The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Associations Alliance (REEEA-A) is proud to spotlight Mrs. Tanwa Iwayemi, one of Nigeria’s foremost voices in renewable energy innovation and sustainable power solutions. With a career spanning nearly two decades, Mrs. Iwayemi has distinguished herself as a technical expert, a project leader, and a passionate advocate for social impact through clean energy.

Mrs. Iwayemi’s professional journey reflects both academic rigor and industry leadership. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Ado Ekiti, an MBA from the University of the People in California, and a Master’s in Energy Engineering from the University of North Dakota, where she is also pursuing her Ph.D. in Energy Engineering. Her doctoral research on hybrid energy storage systems—integrating lithium-ion batteries, supercapacitors, and flywheels—has demonstrated up to 93% round-trip efficiency, showcasing her contribution to solving one of the most pressing challenges in renewable integration: intermittency.
Professionally, Mrs. Iwayemi serves as the Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of AtneSystems Energy, a Lagos-based clean energy company. Under her leadership, AtneSystems has successfully delivered large-scale solar PV and battery storage projects for government, commercial, and institutional clients. Notable among these projects is the 250kW/0.585MWh solar PV and battery installation at the Lagos State Multipurpose Agent Complex, which now provides reliable power for critical public infrastructure. She has also overseen installations for the University of Lagos, Polaris Digitech, and several private sector firms, directly reducing costs, cutting carbon emissions, and improving energy security.
Beyond project delivery, Mrs. Iwayemi is deeply engaged in advancing renewable energy research and advocacy. Her academic publications highlight the role of IoT and Big Data in optimizing PV/battery systems and the potential of hybrid energy storage to transform both grid and off-grid systems in Africa. She has also championed social initiatives such as One Solar Reading Lamp per Child, reinforcing her belief in clean energy as a driver of both equity and opportunity.
Her work has not gone unnoticed. On July 3, 2025, Mrs. Iwayemi received the Award of Excellence from the Women in Renewable Energy Association (WiRE-A). The award recognized her exceptional leadership in energy innovation, renewable systems integration, and creative research in green technology. The recognition underscored her influence in promoting women’s leadership in the energy sector and advancing sustainability solutions that address both community and industry needs.
Most recently, on September 24, 2025, at the 4th International Conference & Awards of REEEA-A, she was formally presented with the Award for Demonstrated Excellence in Clean Energy Advancement. This honor acknowledged her outstanding leadership in renewable energy innovation, systems integration, and impactful research in green technology. The award citation noted that her work “is not only advancing Nigeria’s clean energy transition but also inspiring a generation of engineers and entrepreneurs across Africa to harness technology for sustainability and social good.”
When asked at the recently concluded event about the future of Nigeria’s clean energy transition, Mrs. Iwayemi, who joined virtually, stressed that energy storage and smart-grid integration remain the cornerstone of achieving 30% renewable adoption by 2030. She explained that solutions combining PV, battery storage, and IoT-driven grid optimization would address Nigeria’s longstanding issues of energy poverty, reliability, and fossil fuel dependence.
In addition to these awards, Mrs. Iwayemi is a Fellow of the National Institute of Professional Engineers and Scientists (NIPES), a SPVI-certified member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and a member of other distinguished organizations including the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN), the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), and the Women in Renewable Energy Association (WiRE-A). These memberships reflect her standing as a respected leader in both Nigerian and international renewable energy communities.
The REEEA-A is proud to celebrate Mrs. Iwayemi’s accomplishments and her enduring contributions to Nigeria’s renewable energy sector. Her recognition by multiple distinguished professional bodies underscores her role as a pioneer in clean energy advancement and a champion for sustainability and innovation in Africa.
