  • REEEA-ALLIANCE and NEMSA Sign MoU to Strengthen Quality, Safety, and Professional Standards in Nigeria’s Clean Energy Sector

Abuja, Nigeria | 22 December 2025 — The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Associations Alliance (REEEA-A) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigeria Electricity Management and Service Agency (NEMSA), marking a significant step toward advancing quality assurance, certification, and safe deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions across Nigeria.

The MoU establishes a collaborative framework to promote professional competence, safety standards, and the inclusive deployment of clean energy, as Nigeria accelerates its energy transition. The partnership underscores a shared commitment to ensuring that sector growth is matched by quality, integrity, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Speaking on the significance of the partnership, REEEA-A described the MoU as more than a ceremonial agreement, noting that it represents a call to concerted joint action for stakeholders across the clean energy ecosystem.

“As renewable energy and energy efficiency deployment expand nationwide, quality assurance and professional standards must not lag behind growth. This partnership signals our collective resolve to raise the bar across the sector,” the Alliance stated.

The collaboration will be implemented with the support of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and GIZ, reinforcing efforts to institutionalise certification, compliance, and best practices within Nigeria’s clean energy value chains.

Call to Action for Stakeholders

REEEA-A has called on its Presidents, leaders, and member associations to actively support the implementation of the MoU by:

  • Promoting quality assurance and certification programmes in renewable energy and energy efficiency

  • Initiating internal certification and compliance drives within their respective organisations and professional networks

  • Encouraging practitioners to pursue recognised certifications that enhance competence and credibility

  • Actively participating in the rollout of the 2026 Implementation Plan, scheduled to commence in the coming weeks. The President’s Address to the Presidents of Member Associations- NEMSA-REEEAA MoU

Driving a Credible Energy Transition

According to the Alliance, the initiative is critical to protecting consumers, strengthening investor confidence, and safeguarding Nigeria’s energy transition. By embedding standards and professionalism at the core of sector growth, the partnership aims to deliver long-term value, safety, and sustainability.

REEEA-A reaffirmed its commitment to providing principled, forward-looking leadership, ensuring that Nigeria’s clean energy transition is not only rapid but also responsible and enduring.

“The transition must be fast—but it must also be right. Together with our partners, we are committed to leading by example and driving collective action across the sector.”
