Abbas holds a Master Degree in Energy Security Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Management both from the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna while his Bachelor’s Degree was in Industrial Chemistry from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi.

He has over 15 years of working experience in both public and private sector and is currently a Chief Scientific Officer with the Energy Commission of Nigeria. He is versatile in Energy Planning and Analysis with interest in low carbon development growth and energy efficiency and conservation, sustainable energy development, and he is a strong advocate for Renewable Energy deployment.

He has attended several courses within and outside the country including that for Capacity Building on Green Banking for Recovery, Energy and Flexibility Modelling, Micro-Hydro Pre-feasibility and feasibility Studies, training workshop on Clean Cookstoves Testing and Analysis, Small Hydropower Development Training, Financial Analysis of Energy Projects using RELCOST, training on Concentrated Solar Power for Electricity Generation, training programme on Decentralized Energy Solution-Planning and Implementation amongst others.

He is a member of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), member of the Solar Energy Society of Nigeria (SESN), Executive Member of the Nigerian National Committee of the World Energy Council (NNC-WEC). He is married with children
